Best Strawberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

You know those super busy hectic mornings? Or those morning after you had a big juicy steak dinner the night before, and can still feel the steak in your belly?

Those mornings. That mornings are the perfect mornings for a glass or two of this refreshing, light, yet filling strawberry blueberry banana smoothie.

Packed full of nutrients, this powerhouse smoothie fills you up without feeling yucky, and also happens to be DELISH. You will be back for more before you know it.

I have made this strawberry blueberry banana smoothie recipe for over a decade, maybe even close to two. I’ve tweaked it and perfected it over time, and this is my favorite easy way to make it.

My strawberry blueberry banana smoothie is creamy and sweet, but not overly sweet, with the perfect amount of ice, the perfect blend of fruitiness, a touch of vanilla from the yogurt, and a little chia seeds to bring on some protein and fiber, and fill me up for longer.

It truly is the best strawberry blueberry banana smoothie out there – it tastes like the ones you get from your favorite local smoothie places. The best part is, you can make it right in the comforts of your own home within 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Our delicious strawberry blueberry banana smoothie is made the ingredients below:

Smoothie topped with sliced strawberries, blueberries, chia seeds and a straw in it
  • Frozen strawberries and blueberries. Use frozen berries, or freeze fresh berries. I often freeze a bag of fruits in my fridge for making smoothies. Frozen fruits create a crushed ice texture without adding ice.
  • Banana. I typically don’t freeze the bananas and I like to use yellow bananas (not green) because they are sweeter). If you do use frozen bananas, you’ll want to add more milk because it will be too much icy fruits for most mixture to blend it up smoothly.
  • Vanilla yogurt – I love the vanilla flavors in the yogurt to give the strawberry blueberry banana smoothie an additional level of flavor. Vanilla Greek yogurt works as well. If I use a sweetened yogurt, I typically omit honey.
  • Milk. I like to mix milk into this because it adds liquid to the mixture. With the amount of frozen fruits, yogurt itself is typically not liquid-y enough for my blender to comfortably blend everything smoothly. Besides, more calcium? Yes, please! Use any type of milk – non dairy milk works as well!
  • Honey. Optional. Makes a great sweetener for smoothies, and oh-so-good. Omit it if you are trying to cut down on the sugar content.
  • Chia Seeds. This superfood is densely packed with nutrients. A little goes a long way since it is rich in fiber, omega-3, protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Super healthy ingredient that keeps you full. WIN-WIN.

How to Make It

To make strawberry blueberry banana smoothie, you will need a blender. The higher quality the blender, the easiest it is to blend everything up.

Fill blender with vanilla yogurt, milk, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, bananas, chia seeds and (optional) honey if you like your strawberry blueberry banana smoothie on the sweeter side.

And BLEND….

At any point of blending, if blender gets stuck, add more milk to get the blender moving again. If the consistency of the smoothie is too thin at the end, add more frozen fruits.

Adjust as you need to to get your strawberry blueberry banana smoothie to the consistency you prefer.

When it is done, pour smoothie into two glasses and I like to top with sliced strawberries, blueberries, bananas and chia seeds. But that is not necessary.

Blenders I’ve used

A few blenders I have used to make this strawberry blueberry banana smoothie:

  • For the longest time, I’ve used Ninja Mega Kitchen System to make this smoothie. It is a blender, but also has a single serve cup where you blend everything in that single serve cup, and then drink directly from the cup, or put a lid on it and take it wherever. No transferring of liquid. No pouring. How awesome is that? And how LAZY am I?? This recipe is for two, so just cut it in half if using the single serve cup.
  • Kitchen Aid Blender – another blender that I own that is powerful and blends my smoothie up really well.

Variation and Substitution

There are so many ways you can make this strawberry blueberry banana smoothie your very own. Here are some ideas:

  • Make it dairy-free. Use almond milk or oat milk instead of milk, and use non-dairy yogurt instead of regular yogurt.
  • Use a different sweetener. Maple syrup and dates make great sweeteners can be used instead of honey.
  • Use other berries. Frozen raspberries and blackberries work great in this smoothie as well.
  • Add ‘hidden’ veggies. Kale or spinach are great veggies to add to smoothies, and you can barely taste it while getting all its nutrients!
  • Add more protein. Add a tablespoon or two of nut butter for some added protein if you’d like!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a fresh berries instead of frozen?

If you do, I highly recommend using frozen bananas. You’ll want to use some form of frozen fruits to get that icy texture. If you do not use frozen fruits and use all fresh fruits, then add a cup of ice to the mixture before blending. Keep in mind if you do that your strawberry blueberry banana smoothie will be more diluted.

What do I do if my blender get stuck halfway when blending?

Add more milk!

How do I thicken my smoothie?

Add more frozen berries or bananas. In fact, I highly recommend adjusting the consistency based on your preferences.

Just tried this smoothie recipe, and I really liked it! I added a little more milk to thin it out. The flavor was much better than the smoothies (with banana) I have made in the past. I feel like they always taste the same. This had a rich, yummy flavor. I could definitely drink this as a meal on a regular basis and not get tired of it. Thanks!
